Validators on the XRP Ledger are gearing up for a key vote next week on five protocol amendments with the release of xrpld 3.3.0. This upgrade not only introduces fresh features but also revisits earlier proposals that had been withdrawn due to security concerns.
Jazzi Cooper, RippleX’s Head of Product, outlined the upcoming changes, highlighting amendments like Confidential MPT, Batch, Permission Delegation, Sponsored Fees and Reserves, and Dynamic MPT. Each amendment must pass through the XRPL governance process before implementation.
Security Patches Bring Back Withdrawn Proposals
Two amendments returning after fixes are the Batch amendment and Permission Delegation. The Batch amendment bundles up to eight transactions from different accounts to either all succeed or fail together. Originally pulled back after a vulnerability was discovered in its signature verification, it now returns post-patch without any impact on user funds.
The Permission Delegation amendment, removed last year due to a bug that allowed one account to pay fees for another, risking XRP draining, has also been corrected and resubmitted for validator approval.
The other three amendments introduce new capabilities. Confidential MPT extends Multi-Purpose Tokens with privacy features using zero-knowledge proofs to keep transaction details hidden except from verifiers. Sponsored Fees and Reserves will allow institutions like banks to cover XRP transaction fees and reserve requirements on users’ behalf, potentially easing onboarding. Lastly, Dynamic MPT offers token issuers more flexibility to alter the token’s characteristics dynamically.
These changes come as XRPL continues pushing toward more solid support for global asset transfers and financial utilities. For context on XRP’s recent market movements, the token has held steady above $1 amid growing options activity according to recent reports.
