Visa shares dropped 0.23% to $368.74 after a sharp midday tumble, though buying interest emerged in the afternoon. The move coincided with the payments giant announcing expanded stablecoin support through its Visa Direct network. Starting now, eligible business clients can prefund merchant accounts with stablecoins and send payouts directly to digital wallets. Zero Hash, a blockchain infrastructure firm, will handle settlement, liquidity, and regulatory compliance behind the scenes.
The partnership opens a cleaner path for cross-border money movement. Stablecoins don't sleep, so transactions can settle outside banking hours and cut delays on routes that normally move slowly. Recipients get their funds faster when they opt for direct stablecoin delivery instead of waiting for traditional correspondent banking. For companies managing international cash flow, that flexibility matters on the margins.
Visa Direct already spans 195 countries and territories with connections to roughly 18 billion payment endpoints globally. That infrastructure becomes a distribution channel for stablecoin settlement into existing payment rails without requiring Visa to rebuild its core network. Zero Hash handles the technical grunt work: conversion, custody, settlement, liquidity management, and regulatory guardrails.
Zero Hash's role and track record
Zero Hash launched in 2017 as a backend provider for digital asset services. The company pulled in $104 million during a Series D-2 round led by Interactive Brokers, which valued it at $1 billion and signaled institutional confidence in its expansion. More recently, it secured MiCA licensing and Electronic Money Institution status in Europe in May, giving it regulatory footing to operate across the continent.
Visa's stablecoin push mirrors what rivals are doing. Circle, the issuer of USDC, has been expanding its payment infrastructure as the company swings back to profitability. The broader payments sector is racing to integrate blockchain rails into settlement systems, and Visa is ensuring it doesn't get left behind on that curve.
