Since then, he’s been clear about his ambition to play in England, with Manchester United showing the most genuine interest. Yet, the reality is turning out to be a costly dream.
Osimhen’s numbers are impressive. In 69 games for Galatasaray, he’s scored 54 goals and provided 13 assists, nearly a direct goal involvement every match. Such a record makes clubs notice, but Galatasaray’s hold on him is strong. His contract runs until 2029, and there is no release clause meaning the Turkish side can demand a hefty fee without being pressured to sell.
Manchester United has been exploring a deal, but the financial side complicates things. Reports suggest the club has stepped back from negotiations in mid-2026, overwhelmed by the high price tag. It’s not just the transfer fee; the wage structure is tricky too. Turkey’s tax system lets Osimhen take home more of his salary compared to England. To match that, United would need to offer a significantly bigger paycheck, pushing costs beyond what the club deems reasonable.
Osimhen’s Premier League hopes have faced similar obstacles before. Arsenal and Chelsea had previously shown interest, but those talks never led to a transfer. His reputation was built in Serie A, where he made his name as a lethal striker before moving to Turkey.
Another factor in the transfer puzzle is the Africa Cup of Nations, which would see any club signing Osimhen lose him for extended periods during the tournament. This scheduling issue adds a layer of complexity to any deal.
