AEON, a blockchain settlement layer, integrated Bittensor's TAO token to enable AI-native payments and autonomous commerce. The move opens a pathway for real-world spending tied to agentic economic activity. Yet the market yawned. TAO price barely budged on the news.
The token holds ground near the 78.6% Fibonacci retracement level, a zone critical for both bulls and bears. A bounce from $194 toward $330 or $370 looks plausible on price action alone. The problem: volume tells a different story. Trading activity remains anemic compared to surges seen in June or April. The OBV and A/D indicators flatlined, offering no confirmation. CMF climbed higher without heavy volume behind it, a weak signal at best.
Short liquidations pose the real threat. CoinGlass data shows dense clusters of high-use short positions stacked just above $200. This setup creates a liquidity trap. Any move higher will trigger those shorts, pulling TAO up artificially before sellers return and the token rolls over. Traders should watch for this inorganic, liquidation-hunting rally over the next few days rather than betting on a genuine trend reversal.
The AEON integration itself matters strategically for TAO's long-term story. Real usage and merchant adoption remain the missing pieces. Until those materialize and buying pressure returns to the market, a $330 rally looks more like a squeeze than a breakout.
