Hashdex announced August 17 as the final trading day for its DeFi Bitcoin ETF before winding down operations. Shareholders holding through that date will receive cash distributions around August 28, marking another exit in the crowded Bitcoin ETF space.

The fund managed just $14.7 million in assets, a fraction of what competitors have accumulated since spot Bitcoin ETFs launched last year. With limited scale and slowing inflows, Hashdex decided liquidation made more sense than struggling to attract capital. The decision reflects how quickly the market has consolidated around the largest players.

Anyone still holding shares at closure will get paid out. Those wanting to exit early can trade the ETF normally until August 17. After that date, the fund begins asset liquidation. The company hasn't disclosed specific performance details or reasons for the shutdown beyond general operational considerations.
