Coinbase Advanced users can now split their holdings across up to 25 separate portfolios without opening new accounts. Each one operates independently, letting traders run different strategies side by side within a single verified account. No extra login credentials, no repeated identity checks, no moving money between platforms.
Think of it as having 25 separate trading desks inside one login. A user could run a long-term Bitcoin accumulation strategy in portfolio one, day-trade altcoins in portfolio two, test experimental use plays in a third. The platform pulls everything together under the same account.
What traders actually get with this
The feature lives on the Portfolio page in Coinbase Advanced. Each portfolio keeps its own order history, position tracking, and performance metrics. Assets stay isolated by default, though the company is working on cross-margining tools that would let collateral from one portfolio back margin requirements in another.
This isn't new thinking for Coinbase. The exchange first tested sub-accounts back in December 2019 on its Pro platform, aimed at users managing multiple client accounts. The Advanced version cranks up the portfolio limit and bakes the feature deeper into the platform's core interface.
Where Coinbase is really heading
The company is building infrastructure for AI trading agents. Each bot would operate inside its own isolated portfolio, handling rebalancing and strategy execution without touching a trader's other positions. Coinbase is also eyeing cross-margining as a way to let traders use collateral from crypto holdings to support traditional finance positions.
The bigger move is obvious. Coinbase wants to become the all-in-one account for traders mixing stocks, ETFs, and crypto. If you can manage a traditional portfolio, a crypto portfolio, and an AI-powered bot portfolio all from the same login, all separated and independent, there's less reason to maintain accounts at competitors. That's the lock-in play.
