Large investors have sharply increased their stakes in Cardano, now controlling 68.76% of all ADA tokens in circulation even as the price has plunged more than 70% this year. Market analyst Lark Davis highlighted that whales hold 25.1 billion ADA out of 36.5 billion circulating tokens. This is the highest concentration of whale ownership since July 2020.
Such a huge accumulation by institutional players signals strong confidence in Cardano’s medium- and long-term potential. While retail investors retreat amid the price crash, these big holders are scooping up tokens at bargain levels. The ADA price recently hit a low of $0.1615, down almost 80% from its peak a year ago.
Cardano remains the 15th largest cryptocurrency by market cap, valued at around $5.95 billion, just behind Monero and Zcash. The growing whale dominance contrasts sharply with a bearish market trend that has weighed down other major coins like Bitcoin and Ethereum. This accumulation phase by whales could indicate they are betting on a recovery that retail investors are missing.
