“You’ll see Bitwise now where Chorus One used to be,” a staking user noted while checking their Ledger app. The recent change is the result of Bitwise’s rebranding of validator nodes formerly operated by Chorus One on Solana, Cosmos, and Injective networks. This isn’t a disruption but a cosmetic update following Bitwise’s acquisition of Chorus One earlier this year, which brought over $2.2 billion in staked assets under one umbrella.
Behind the scenes, nothing about staking is shifting. The infrastructure stays intact, fees remain the same, and rewards flows continue as before. Users will only notice the name swap in the Ledger Wallet app where validators once labeled Chorus One now carry the Bitwise or Ledger by Bitwise brand, depending on the blockchain. Chorus One’s reputation as a top-tier institutional staking operator managing nodes across 30+ proof-of-stake networks remains embedded in the operation, just wearing a new jersey.
Bitwise’s takeover is more than a mere rebrand; it marks a strategic consolidation within its Bitwise Onchain Solutions division focused on providing staking infrastructure to institutions and self-custody users. Managing client assets above $15 billion, Bitwise aims to be the institutional destination for proof-of-stake yields, eliminating the need for entities to build their own validator setups. The $2.2 billion staked assets from Chorus One vault the company into one of the largest institutional staking providers instantly.
Bitwise has been pushing the integration with Ledger to offer what it calls institutional-grade infrastructure tailor-made for self-custody investors, highlighting competitive staking rewards, especially on Solana. This aligns with a broader trend where crypto firms are tightening infrastructure partnerships to enhance user experiences and security. Meanwhile, the steady consolidation in staking services reflects growing institutional interest in passive income strategies within the crypto space.
