Bitcoin is stuck in a tug of war, and nobody's sure who's winning. The price hovers above $60,000, but that comfort zone is deceptive. Markus Thielen from 10x Research has drawn a line that matters more than it looks: $63,000 on a monthly close. Cross it, and the bear market bottom gets confirmed. Miss it, and the selling pressure could intensify.

The numbers tell a harder story than the headlines. Bitcoin dropped 3.2% in the last week alone. It's trading below both the 7-day and 30-day moving averages, which means the short-term momentum is still bearish. July's close fell short of that critical $63,000 threshold, so technically, the bottom hasn't been confirmed yet. Thielen's message is blunt: until Bitcoin closes above $63,000 on a monthly timeframe, traders shouldn't assume the worst is over.

The Fed's Shadow Over Bitcoin

Macroeconomic headwinds are real and getting stronger. If US 10-year Treasury yields keep climbing, the Federal Reserve might feel forced to resume interest rate hikes as soon as September. Higher rates squeeze risky assets hard, and Bitcoin, for all its narrative about being digital gold, still bleeds when investors flee to safer ground. Thielen flagged this as a significant risk factor that could override any technical recovery attempt.

Mining Pressure and Corporate Liquidations

There's another threat hiding in plain sight. Bitcoin miners who pivoted into AI mining operations are sitting on approximately 100,000 BTC. If they decide to liquidate, that's massive selling pressure hitting the market at once. Add to that institutional Bitcoin treasury companies potentially offloading holdings, and you've got a scenario where supply could overwhelm demand faster than anyone expects.

For Bitcoin to break out of this funk, Thielen says it needs two things working in sync: technical levels holding firm and macroeconomic conditions easing up. Right now, neither is guaranteed. The $63,000 level isn't magic, but it's the closest thing we have to a real confirmation signal in a market that's been trading on hope more than fundamentals.
