World Foundation has raised $52.5 million through a strategic token sale led by Pantera Capital to fund the worldwide expansion of its digital identity verification platform, World ID. This milestone funding round, which includes investments from Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings, Selini Capital, and Susquehanna Crypto, features a one-year lockup on all WLD tokens purchased.
Funding and Strategic Backing
The capital infusion, announced on July 24, marks a significant step for World Foundation, co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The funds will support the deployment of World ID’s infrastructure across commercial enterprises, consumer applications, and autonomous AI systems globally. Pantera’s general partner, Cosmo Jiang, highlighted the growing demand for reliable Proof of Human verification as AI technologies rapidly advance, making World ID’s role increasingly critical.
Tom Lee from Eightco Holdings emphasized that verified digital credentials like those provided by World ID are becoming essential security layers amid the surge of automated bots, synthetic media, and deepfake content proliferating across digital platforms. The investment reflects confidence in World ID’s privacy-focused approach to combat these emerging threats.
Technology and Adoption
World ID employs a unique privacy-preserving system that verifies a user’s humanity without exposing personal data. Verification takes place via a physical device known as an Orb, which conducts a one-time biometric check to generate a secure digital credential stored locally on the user’s device. The platform leverages zero-knowledge proofs and multi-party computation to ensure security and privacy.
Major digital services and enterprise platforms including Zoom, Docusign, Okta, Vercel, and Tinder have integrated World ID’s verification tools, with over 39 million users registered on the World Network. This adoption signals a growing trend where digital identity verification is becoming a foundational element for secure online interactions, especially as AI-generated content and bot traffic increase.
With this funding, World Foundation aims to launch its enterprise World ID 4.0 stack soon, scaling the technology’s reach and capabilities across global markets.
