POSCO International and LG CNS have started a new pilot program to tokenize live trade receivables using the Injective blockchain, pushing real-world asset tokenization into global trade. This project taps into actual commercial data from POSCO’s more than 80 overseas subsidiaries, rather than relying on test data.

Streamlining Trade Finance with Blockchain

POSCO International, a major South Korean trading company with $22.2 billion in revenue, handles operations across steel, energy, and battery materials sectors worldwide. LG CNS, the IT branch of the LG Group, recently completed South Korea’s largest IPO since 2022. Together, they are issuing POSCO’s trade receivables as permissioned tokens on the Injective blockchain. Only authorized participants can hold and transfer these tokens, with settlements happening on-chain and managed by POSCO’s finance team.

Currently, receivables are recorded separately by subsidiaries, banks, and counterparties, causing slow reconciliations and delayed liquidity. By consolidating these records onto a shared ledger, the receivable becomes a single token that carries compliance rules across jurisdictions, ensuring consistent verification.

Injective was selected for its real-world asset module, which enforces identity checks and transfer restrictions at the protocol level. Transactions are finalized instantly with block times under one second and use an on-chain order book designed to prevent front-running, features essential for tokenizing claims representing actual money owed.

A POSCO International spokesperson said the pilot has already confirmed operational efficiency improvements and that a finalized framework for a phased rollout across global operations is expected in the second half of 2026. This move echoes broader trends of enterprise tokenization, building on over $3 trillion processed by platforms like JPMorgan’s Kinexys.
