Florida Representative Mike Haridopolos is sounding alarms as Senate delays put the CLARITY Act at risk, threatening America's crypto market leadership. The bill, designed to clarify regulatory responsibilities between the SEC and CFTC, aims to solidify a framework for exchanges, token issuers, and blockchain developers to operate confidently within the United States. Yet, with lawmakers prioritizing 74 federal nominees and a Russia sanctions bill, the path forward has narrowed ahead of the August recess.
Haridopolos, appearing on Fox Business, criticized Senate Democrats for using procedural tactics to slow progress on legislation that received strong bipartisan support in the House, where it passed 294 134, including 78 Democrats. He emphasized that the bill's delay could drive crypto enterprises and investment overseas, undermining US markets as the global hub for digital asset activity. The Senate Banking Committee had advanced the bill back in May, but it needs at least eight Democratic votes in the full Senate to clear procedural hurdles, a challenge that remains unresolved.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune has shifted attention temporarily to other priorities, signaling that any vote on the CLARITY Act is unlikely before August 7. With the Senate then entering a state work period through early September, the legislation’s fate hangs in the balance. Haridopolos’s push to revive momentum shows concerns that without clear rules, US crypto leadership could erode amid escalating regulatory uncertainty. Meanwhile, the SEC continues to intensify crypto rulemaking efforts, filling the void left by stalled legislation as lawmakers delay Clarity Act.
