Seagate’s stock jumped after hours following a surprisingly solid fiscal Q4 report that highlighted the growing demand for AI-driven data storage. While AI often draws attention to GPUs, the real question lies in where colossal amounts of generated data end up. For Seagate, the answer is clear: hard drives remain the backbone of AI data infrastructure.
Numbers That Speak Volumes
The company reported fiscal Q4 2026 revenue of $3.629 billion, with non-GAAP diluted EPS hitting $5.71. These figures mark a substantial rebound from the previous storage market slump and beat many analysts’ expectations. Even more telling, Seagate’s forecast for Q1 FY2027 anticipates revenue around $4.10 billion and EPS near $7.30, signifying that growth tied to AI workloads isn't a fleeting trend.
AI’s Growing Appetite for Storage
Seagate’s management emphasized how AI accelerates data generation, pushing the need for massive, cost-effective storage solutions at cloud and data centers. Innovations such as Mozaic and HAMR technologies allow the company to increase drive capacity substantially without skyrocketing power usage or costs. This positions Seagate not just as a legacy hardware maker but as a key player supporting the AI revolution behind the scenes.
Capital discipline also shone through last quarter. The firm generated $1.118 billion in free cash flow, retired $302 million in debt, and returned $283 million to shareholders. Such financial health underpins confidence as infrastructure investments ramp up.
The market response was immediate, with shares climbing roughly 6% after the earnings release. Earlier upgrades, like Wells Fargo’s move to Overweight, underscored growing investor faith in Seagate’s AI-driven trajectory.
