On July 22, Samsung revealed plans to integrate stablecoins into its Samsung Wallet, a feature expected to include USDC, the popular dollar-pegged digital currency. This update aims to bring stablecoin payments alongside traditional functions like tap-to-pay, boarding passes, and loyalty cards for Galaxy device users worldwide.
Expanding Samsung Wallet’s Capabilities
The new stablecoin support is part of Samsung’s broader strategy to create a unified platform for payments, rewards, and digital assets, branding it as a “secured payments and rewards experience.” While a precise launch date hasn’t been confirmed, USDC appears to be the frontrunner among the supported tokens.
This announcement coincided with the launch of the Galaxy Card, a Barclays-issued credit card operating on the Visa network, aimed at US customers with tiered cash-back rewards. Samsung’s 2025 partnership with Coinbase set the stage for this move, transitioning Samsung Wallet from a basic crypto access tool into a more full digital asset platform.
For Circle, the issuer of USDC, this collaboration could strengthen its market position ahead of any potential public offerings. However, regulatory uncertainties around stablecoins could restrict availability to certain markets initially, with the US likely being the first.
