Samsung Electronics revealed plans to embed stablecoin support directly into its Samsung Wallet during the Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event on July 22. This move marks a push to merge traditional payment options with digital assets in a single app.
Samsung's stock reacted sharply, falling 7.6% to ₩249,500 on the Friday following the announcement. The company’s product manager, Lee Dinham, emphasized that the wallet's scope will broaden beyond cash and savings accounts, incorporating stablecoins to facilitate smooth value transfers.
The presentation showcased an interface featuring USDC, hinting this dollar-pegged stablecoin could be among the first supported. Despite the demo, Samsung has yet to confirm which stablecoins will be officially compatible, when the launch will occur, or which blockchain platforms will underpin the service. There is also no word on which regions will gain access at rollout.
Security remains a priority, with all wallet functions safeguarded through Samsung Knox and end-to-end encryption. This aligns with previous efforts to expand crypto capabilities, such as the October 2025 partnership with Coinbase that let US Galaxy users purchase cryptocurrencies within Samsung Wallet.
Beyond the wallet, Samsung has enhanced its footprint in blockchain and crypto markets, investing $408 million for a 4% stake in Dunamu, operator of South Korea’s largest crypto exchange, Upbit. Collaboration plans focus on tokenized securities and digital asset payments, including potential won-backed stablecoins through Samsung Card’s Monimo platform.
