Samsung is taking a major step by incorporating stablecoin payments directly into its Samsung Wallet app, signaling a move beyond traditional cash and savings. This change enables users to transfer digital assets right from their smartphones, positioning Samsung to be a pioneer among major phone makers in adopting stablecoins for mobile payments.
Expansion of Blockchain Features in Samsung Wallet
At the Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung revealed plans to enhance Samsung Wallet with stablecoin support, although the company did not specify which assets, blockchain networks, or launch timelines are involved. This follows Samsung’s collaboration with Coinbase from late 2025, which allowed Galaxy phone users in over 75 million strong initial markets to buy cryptocurrencies directly within the wallet interface. The new feature aims to deepen blockchain payments integration rather than adding separate apps or services.
Samsung’s Strategic Investment in South Korea’s Crypto Market
Samsung is also increasing its crypto footprint through investments in key players. In May 2026, Samsung Securities, SDS, and Samsung Card collectively acquired a 4% stake in Dunamu, operator of Upbit, Korea’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, for $408 million. This move complements other recent industry investments, like Hana Bank’s 6.55% stake acquisition in Dunamu for $670 million, indicating intensified corporate interest in the Korean crypto sector.
The Samsung Wallet’s evolution from storing payment cards and ID documents to supporting stablecoins reflects a broader strategy to unify traditional financial tools with digital assets within one platform. The integration could enhance user convenience and accelerate crypto adoption on mobile devices globally.
