OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that artificial intelligence has crossed a key milestone, marking the start of digital superintelligence development. In his June 2025 blog post titled "The Gentle Singularity," Altman described humanity as having passed the "event horizon" where AI’s growth accelerates beyond previous limits.
Altman’s vision isn’t of a sudden, radical transformation but a steady ramping up. By 2026, he expects AI to produce original scientific discoveries, not just compile existing knowledge. By 2027, robots handling real-world physical tasks should become widespread. Current AI tools are already boosting scientist productivity two to three times, highlighting the tangible gains happening now.
Though Altman didn’t mention crypto explicitly, his forecast has big implications for AI-linked blockchain projects. The increasing demand for computing power and data infrastructure aligns with decentralized networks aiming to support AI workloads. Autonomous systems of the near future will require blockchain-based payment solutions and identity management without human middlemen.
However, skeptics point out that today’s AI still struggles with reliability and logic, so the timelines Altman suggests might prove optimistic. For crypto investors, many AI-focused tokens might be priced for rapid adoption, risking a sharp market correction if these milestones are delayed.
