Ripple recently unlocked 1 billion XRP tokens, totaling over $1.06 billion, through three staggered releases that have drawn fresh attention to XRP’s supply and price behavior. The breakdown included 500 million XRP worth $532.86 million, followed by 300 million tokens at $319.65 million, and a final 200 million valued at $213.11 million. Despite the sizable injection, immediate selling hasn’t dominated, as Ripple has a history of managing these holdings via escrow redistribution.
Investors are now closely monitoring whether significant portions of these unlocked tokens will head to exchanges, potentially increasing tradeable supply and pressuring XRP’s key support zones. Unlike past unlock events that triggered sell-offs, this time, the market waits for confirmation through on-chain data, especially exchange inflows, which can serve as early warning signs of rising selling pressure.
After months of XRP consistently flowing out of exchanges, recent activity showed a net inflow of approximately $2.41 million. This switch marks one of the few positive exchange netflows in recent times and stokes the possibility of new selling materializing, though the amount remains modest compared to historic spikes well into the tens of millions. Buyers might still manage this increased liquidity without a sharp impact on the price if such inflows don’t accelerate.
Meanwhile, on-chain metrics provide an intriguing counterpoint. The Network Value to Transaction (NVT) ratio for XRP dropped sharply by over 60% in a single day, landing at about 87.86. A falling NVT indicates heightened transaction activity relative to market cap, often interpreted as growing network utility and potentially healthier market dynamics. Still, stronger on-chain usage doesn’t erase concerns that a fresh token supply could weigh on XRP’s price if it translates into market selling.
This dynamic interaction between unlocked supply, exchange inflows, and network activity will likely shape XRP’s near-term price action. For now, traders and holders watch closely as the token tests critical support, with broader market confidence hinging on whether XRP can absorb incoming liquidity without capitulation.
