Ripple's SVP Jack McDonald revealed in a recent talk with Grayscale Research that the company has transformed far beyond its initial role as a simple cross-border payments provider. Ripple now offers a full suite of institutional digital asset services, including custody, stablecoins, treasury management, and trading infrastructure.
Since its founding in 2013, Ripple has steadily expanded through product innovation and strategic acquisitions. Its platform today integrates the U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin RLUSD, digital asset custody solutions, and prime brokerage services. McDonald highlighted partnerships with Standard Custody & Trust Company and Hidden Road as key to strengthening Ripple's capabilities.
The company's focus is clearly on large banks, fintech firms, payment companies, and asset managers requiring regulated, enterprise-grade infrastructure. This institutional emphasis drives every major product launch and acquisition decision. McDonald emphasized Ripple’s preference for serving big financial institutions rather than retail customers, aiming to simplify operations by consolidating multiple services under one provider.
