Rayo Vallecano is close to finalizing a loan deal for Marash Kumbulla, the 26-year-old Albanian center-back currently under contract with AS Roma. The Spanish side submitted an official proposal late in July 2026, but as of early August, no final agreement or medical examination has been confirmed.
Kumbulla’s market value is estimated around €3 million according to Transfermarkt’s June 2026 data. Roma signed him from Hellas Verona in the summer of 2021, and his contract extends through June 2028. With two years left, Roma faces the challenge of managing a player whose value is depreciating on their books.
The deal’s financial implications
Previously, Kumbulla spent the 2025-26 season in La Liga on loan at RCD Mallorca, where an option to buy was included but not activated. This prior experience in Spain likely influenced Rayo Vallecano’s interest as they look to strengthen their defensive line.
From Roma’s perspective, Kumbulla is not currently part of the first-team plans. Loaning him out helps reduce wage expenses and preserves the possibility of future sales or additional loan arrangements, rather than shouldering the full amortized cost of his contract. The club is therefore leveraging the loan market to mitigate financial exposure while maintaining flexibility.
