Quantum Solutions offloaded 1,000 ETH around the $1,903 mark each, netting about $1.9 million to support the buildout of its AI data center infrastructure. This move drops its holdings to roughly 4,765 ETH, handing over Japan’s biggest public Ether treasury title to Def Consulting, which now holds 4,976 ETH.

Details of the ETH Sale and Treasury Shift

The sale was executed through Quantum’s subsidiary, GPT Pals Studio, and officially recorded on July 30. The Tokyo-listed tech company aims to use the proceeds to acquire Nvidia’s cutting-edge B300 and GB300 GPUs, key for powering its AI systems developed since June. Prior to this transaction, GPT Pals had sold 904 ETH for approximately $1.6 million in mid-June. Altogether, Quantum Solutions has sold nearly 30% of its initial 6,668.8 ETH stash within less than two months, marking a significant reduction in its Ether reserves.

The sale ceiling was recently raised to 4,375 ETH, but with 3,050 ETH pledged as collateral to a Singapore lender, the actual available amount Quantum can liquidate is substantially limited. The bulk of Quantum’s ETH was accumulated during the late 2025 crypto rally when prices hovered between $4,000 and $4,500, meaning the current sales realize a loss compared to their initial acquisition price.

Market Reaction and Broader Implications

Def Consulting’s rise to the largest corporate Ether holder position in Japan signals an ongoing reshuffle in the market for institutional crypto holdings among publicly traded firms, particularly as AI and GPU investments gain traction. Quantum’s pivot to hardware underlines the intensifying competition in AI infrastructure, a trend also reflected in the EU’s recent €30 billion push towards AI gigafactories.

This strategy contrasts with the broader crypto market’s fluctuating conditions, where Ethereum continues to gain ground against Bitcoin despite altcoins struggling for momentum. Quantum Solutions’ ETH selloff echoes a growing pattern of firms reallocating crypto assets into physical tech components, betting on AI’s expanding role in the technology landscape.
