POSCO International and LG CNS have completed a live pilot that tokenized real trade receivables on the Injective blockchain, a significant step towards onchain trade finance for a major industrial player. The pilot employed actual commercial data, not simulations, proving blockchain’s viability for complex trade finance operations.
What the Pilot Achieved
The proof-of-concept involved at least one real on-chain transaction using trade receivables processed through Injective’s Layer-1 blockchain. LG CNS managed the technical integration, while POSCO International provided real trade data. With over $22 billion in revenue last year and a global network exceeding 80 subsidiaries, POSCO’s participation highlights the pilot’s industrial scale and potential impact.
The project combines AI, blockchain, and shared ledger technology to streamline trade finance reconciliation a process traditionally slow and fraught with inefficiencies. POSCO aims to speed up working capital management across its subsidiaries worldwide through this innovation. POSCO President Lee Gye-in emphasized that the PoC validated how AI and blockchain can integrate meaningfully in regulated financial environments.
Why Injective Matters for Onchain Trade Finance
Injective’s blockchain is designed specifically for financial applications that require embedded compliance and ownership rules at the protocol level. This approach contrasts with other blockchains that add such features after deployment, often clumsily. Trade receivables come with regulatory and jurisdictional challenges that many blockchains cannot accommodate easily. Injective’s ability to handle these complexities natively positions it as a strong candidate for future onchain trade finance solutions. The full framework is expected to be finalized in the second half of 2026, with POSCO planning a phased rollout to its extensive global network.
