PayPal reported stronger-than-expected results for Q2 2026, posting an adjusted earnings per share of $1.38, beating the $1.28 analysts had projected. Revenue also outpaced estimates, reaching $8.68 billion compared to the forecasted $8.5 billion.

The solid quarter continues a growth trend from earlier this year. In Q1 2026, PayPal’s net revenue was $8.4 billion, a 7% rise year-over-year, while total payment volume hit $464 billion, up 11% from the previous year. The company maintained a user base of 439 million active accounts by the first quarter.

PYUSD’s global push gains traction

PayPal’s stablecoin, PYUSD, launched in collaboration with Paxos in 2023, has expanded into 70 international markets as of March 2026. This dollar-backed coin offers holders up to 4% variable annual rewards, paid monthly and accrued daily in PYUSD, signaling a more aggressive approach beyond a simple side project.

This move is significant in the cross-border payments arena, where friction and fees remain high. PYUSD’s worldwide expansion could streamline transactions across borders, a key advantage amid evolving regulations. The still-pending American GENIUS Act aims to clarify stablecoin rules, but any future regulatory tightening on reserves or rewards could impact PayPal’s program.
