Arena.ai has rolled out a fresh set of detailed categories to assess image editing models, and OpenAI’s GPT Image 2 is leading clearly. The model tops all seven newly introduced evaluation dimensions on the community-voted leaderboard with impressive margins.
With an Elo score of 1463 based on over 165,000 votes, GPT Image 2 isn’t just ahead in some categories it commands a lead of 242 points. To put this in perspective, a 200-point Elo difference often translates into winning roughly 75% of matchups, making GPT Image 2’s dominance substantial.
Competition and Context
Meta’s Muse Image trails behind in second place, while Microsoft’s MAI-Image-2.5 ranks third. The leaderboard also features Google’s Gemini and ByteDance’s Seedream models among its 52 contenders, reflecting a competitive field. the platform has collected 28.5 million votes in the image editing category so far.
Arena.ai first introduced detailed prompt categories for text-to-image models earlier this year, clustering user input to better break down model performance. The move to include image editing reflects a growing interest in finer evaluation metrics such as prompt adherence, aesthetics, and photorealism.
Experts say this clean sweep by OpenAI confirms its status atop the generative AI space across both image creation and editing. The company’s GPT Image 2 now stands as the benchmark in multiple visual AI challenges, pushing competitors to catch up.
