North Korean authorities have arrested a group of former state cyber operators accused of hacking into two government banks and laundering the stolen money via cryptocurrency networks. The crackdown aims to curb escalating cybercrime activities tied to digital currencies within the country.
According to Daily NK, these individuals exploited weaknesses in the banks' security systems to siphon funds, which were then funneled through crypto platforms to obscure their origin. This marks a rare public acknowledgment of North Korea’s use of digital assets to bypass international sanctions.
The move highlights growing concerns about the intersection of state-sponsored cyberattacks and cryptocurrency laundering, a trend that complicates global efforts to track illicit funds.
