Mirae Asset has finalized the purchase of a 97.15% stake in South Korean crypto exchange Korbit and rebranded it as Digital X. This move shifts the platform’s focus from a traditional crypto exchange to a broader digital asset ecosystem centered on tokenized finance.

From Exchange to Digital Asset Hub

The transition is part of Mirae Asset's wider Mirae Asset 3.0 strategy, which aims to merge the company’s financial expertise with blockchain technology. Digital X plans to go beyond simple trading by developing an integrated investment platform that encompasses tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), security token offerings (STOs), stablecoins, and other digital asset investment products.

Instead of competing as a conventional crypto marketplace, Digital X seeks to serve as a financial infrastructure layer that connects traditional finance with blockchain-based assets. This strategy positions Mirae Asset to capitalize on the growing demand for tokenized financial products, offering a more diverse and regulated investment environment.

Compliance and Customer Continuity

Compliance remains a key pillar for Digital X, with a strong emphasis on anti-money laundering protocols, know-your-customer processes, fraud prevention, and data security measures. The platform will align with South Korea’s evolving digital asset regulations to ensure long-term sustainability and trustworthiness.

Current Korbit users will experience no disruption: trading, deposits, withdrawals, and account management continue unchanged. Customer assets will remain segregated from company funds, complying with the Virtual Asset User Protection Act, providing an additional layer of security.

This acquisition allows Mirae Asset not only to increase its presence in South Korea’s crypto market but also to build a full financial ecosystem integrating digital assets with traditional investment frameworks.
