Microsoft’s cloud division hit a major milestone in fiscal year 2026, crossing $100 billion in revenue, CFO Amy Hood revealed in an internal memo. This achievement shows the company’s growing dominance in cloud infrastructure, fueled by heavy investments in artificial intelligence.
According to Hood, Microsoft 365 Copilot, the AI-powered assistant integrated into the company’s productivity suite, now has over 30 million paid seats. This rapid adoption reflects enterprise demand for AI-enhanced workflows. Meanwhile, the company poured more than $41 billion into capital expenditures in the fourth quarter alone, signaling an aggressive push to expand its cloud and AI infrastructure.
Racing for Market Cap Leadership
Microsoft’s surge comes as the tech landscape braces for shifts in market capitalization rankings. Despite its impressive growth, the company’s latest numbers don’t yet position it to surpass NVIDIA, which remains a strong contender for the top spot. Still, Microsoft’s expanding AI and cloud businesses reinforce its role as a key player alongside giants like Apple, Alphabet, and Amazon.
Investors will be watching closely for any new announcements from Microsoft that could reshape expectations for the market cap race, especially as AI becomes increasingly central to tech competition.
