Michael Saylor, the founder and chairman of Strategy, stirred fresh speculation about the company's Bitcoin holdings after sharing an unusual update on social media. Instead of his typical data-driven posts, Saylor tweeted, “We need a different color,” alongside the company’s Bitcoin purchase chart, where BTC acquisitions were marked in orange. This sparked interpretations that Strategy might be shifting focus from buying Bitcoin to bolstering its cash reserves.
Strategy currently holds 843,775 Bitcoin, valued at about $54.63 billion, although the total cost sits higher at $63.83 billion, reflecting an unrealized loss near $9.2 billion or 14.41%. The firm's average purchase price per Bitcoin is $75,653. Transaction records show a change in Strategy’s activity: after making Bitcoin purchases in June, the company sold 2,225 BTC on July 6 at an average price of $60,773, generating roughly $135 million, and sold another 1,363 BTC on June 30 for about $80.7 million.
Saylor's prior pattern of posting tends to precede official reserve updates by a day, so the market is anticipating a formal announcement soon clarifying the post's implication. Until then, interpretations vary, with some expecting Strategy to strengthen liquidity rather than expand its Bitcoin stash.
