On Monday, the KOSPI stock index in South Korea triggered a circuit breaker following an 8% plunge, resulting in a 20-minute halt to all trading activities.

The sharp selloff wiped out nearly ₩396 trillion, equivalent to $264 billion, from the market value. Samsung Electronics shares tumbled 9%, while SK Hynix plummeted 11%, dragging the broader index down dramatically.

Investors are worried about potential cutbacks in AI infrastructure spending and the risks tied to Nvidia-related financing. Growing competition from Chinese tech firms also added pressure to the market.

This drop echoes concerns highlighted recently about Nvidia's accelerated investments amid uncertain AI demand, which has implications for suppliers like Samsung and SK Hynix.
