"This is a leap toward bringing AI from theory into the real world," said Hyundai’s Executive Chair Euisun Chung after meeting with NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang at the tech giant’s Santa Clara headquarters. They announced a new "Physical AI Alliance," a collaboration focused on integrating autonomous driving, robotics, and AI-driven manufacturing into Hyundai’s operations.
The heart of this initiative is Hyundai’s Saemangeum project, a $6.2 billion innovation hub designed to serve as both a research center and a testing ground for new AI technologies before they hit production lines. The scale of this investment highlights Hyundai’s shift toward embedding AI deeply in its physical products rather than merely software solutions.
Back in January 2026, Hyundai laid out its vision of “AI internalization” across a broad ecosystem, emphasizing how its decades of manufacturing expertise offer an advantage over companies that rely solely on software. The partnership with NVIDIA, the third-largest automaker’s key technology ally, is expected to accelerate developments in autonomous vehicles, humanoid robotics, and smart manufacturing processes.
Notably absent from the announcement was any mention of blockchain or cryptocurrency, signaling Hyundai’s clear focus on physical AI applications over digital assets. This move marks a significant pivot of capital away from traditional automotive R&D and EV expansion toward building tangible AI-powered machines and systems.
