OSL HK has started offering XRP trading to retail investors in Hong Kong, becoming the first licensed exchange in the city to open access to this digital asset for everyday users. Eligible customers can now trade XRP against the US dollar on OSL HK’s Flash Trade platform.
The exchange also supports over-the-counter transactions for XRP paired with both USD and HKD. This addition places XRP alongside Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana within the regulated retail crypto offerings on OSL HK, expanding options while complying with local regulations.
Hong Kong's Regulatory Push for Digital Assets
XRP functions as the native token of the XRP Ledger, which is known for enabling near-instant, cost-efficient cross-border payments, remittances, and tokenized asset settlements without intermediaries. Its inclusion in OSL HK’s retail platform aligns with Hong Kong’s broader strategy to balance investor protection and industry growth through a licensing framework for cryptocurrency businesses.
Earlier moves in the city’s digital asset regulation include granting stablecoin licenses to firms like HSBC Hong Kong and Anchorpoint, signaling a push towards mainstream adoption of blockchain technology. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s framework for stablecoin issuers, announced in 2025, underpins this regulatory evolution.
These developments contribute to a growing trend across Asia, with countries like Japan and Singapore advancing their own digital asset regulations.
