Grayscale made its move. The digital asset manager completed its Q2 2026 rebalancing this week, shuffling positions across three major funds and making one decision that caught the market's attention: BNB entered the Smart Contract Fund for the first time.
The shift signals something bigger than routine portfolio maintenance. When a firm managing billions in institutional capital starts betting on BNB Chain alongside Ethereum and Solana,. BNB now sits at roughly 31% of the Smart Contract Fund, matching the combined weight of ETH and SOL, each holding 29%. That's not a token dip. That's a vote of confidence in an entire ecosystem.
Where the money moved
Across Grayscale's DeFi Fund, Uniswap (UNI) dominates at 34.16%. Ondo Finance trails at 25.44%, followed by Aave at 19.97%, Ethena at 12.19%, Curve at 4.42%, and Lido rounding out the positions at 3.82%. These aren't random picks. Each reweighting reflects what institutional money sees happening in real time, liquidity conditions, and which projects are shipping actual updates.
The AI-focused fund got its own treatment. Grayscale trimmed NEAR Protocol from its perch, cutting it to 31%, while Bittensor (TAO) climbed to 29%. Bittensor has been pulling attention from institutions lately, and this move confirms that pattern in cold numbers.
Rebalancing isn't guesswork. Grayscale weights changes against market cap shifts, trading volume, protocol developments, and their own thesis on where blockchain infrastructure is heading. When these funds rotate holdings, analysts watch because it's essentially institutional money broadcasting which bets it's doubling down on and which ones it's stepping back from.
