“We want users to manage everything financial in one spot,” said Cameron Winklevoss as Gemini launched commission-free stock trading for US customers on July 7, 2026. The crypto exchange, known for its digital asset focus, is now offering access to thousands of US-listed stocks, blending equities and crypto in a single account. This move signals Gemini’s ambition to become a full-service financial platform, directly competing with Robinhood and traditional brokers.
Behind the scenes, Gemini relies on Nasdaq for real-time market data, ensuring users get live quotes rather than delayed prices common with some discount brokers. Apex Clearing Corporation handles the custody and trade processing, providing the regulatory backbone for stock ownership. Tyler Winklevoss envisions a platform that eventually unites equities, crypto, derivatives, and other financial products under one roof. However, not all US users can access this feature yet residents of states like Texas, Illinois, and Massachusetts, along with Puerto Rico and Guam, are excluded in this initial phase.
The launch places Gemini on an intriguing path, mirroring but reversing Robinhood’s journey, which started with stocks and later added crypto. Both platforms now converge on an integrated financial experience but approach it from opposite directions. Investors will watch closely how Gemini’s stock trading adoption unfolds and what additional products, such as derivatives, the exchange will introduce next. This expansion could disrupt brokerage landscapes and reshape retail investors’ habits.
