Dakota has officially submitted an application to the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for a national trust bank charter, stepping up alongside crypto giants like Circle and Ripple in the race for federal banking licenses. CEO Ryan Bozarth shared that this charter would allow Dakota to operate under one cohesive federal framework, simplifying regulatory complexity.

Bozarth emphasized that Dakota has spent the last two years developing financial infrastructure aimed at enhancing customer experience by cutting out middlemen. He believes fewer intermediaries will help reduce friction and costs, making stablecoin and tokenized financial services more accessible.

This move highlights a growing pattern among crypto firms aiming to secure federal oversight, anticipating increased demand from institutional investors for stablecoins and tokenized assets. Dakota’s application reflects the industry’s push to legitimize operations under clear regulatory guardrails. The approach echoes efforts seen with companies like Circle, which has sought a similar charter to boost trust and compliance.
