Chainlink Labs brought in Katherine Kirkpatrick Bos as Head of Legal this week, a move that signals serious intent to handle the regulatory complexity ahead. Bos spent recent years in some of crypto's thorniest legal corners: General Counsel at StarkWare, which built StarkNet's zero-knowledge scaling tech, and Chief Legal Officer at Cboe Digital, the crypto division of one of the world's largest options exchanges. She also held the General Counsel seat at Maple Finance, a DeFi lending protocol.

That track record matters. She has navigated the legal frameworks around Layer 2 scaling, regulated centralized exchanges, and decentralized lending all at once. Most crypto lawyers specialize in one lane. Bos has worked across CeFi and DeFi simultaneously, which means she understands both how institutional finance moves and how protocol governance works.

Ben Sherwin, Chainlink's existing General Counsel, brought her on after reading her academic work. The hire follows Chainlink's push into institutional partnerships for onchain finance. The company has been working with major financial institutions on cross-chain interoperability and tokenized asset projects, areas where legal clarity can make or break a deal. Chainlink currently has multiple open positions across legal and compliance, suggesting the team expects this expansion to accelerate.
