Bloomberg LP has acquired Canoe Intelligence, a move set to enhance its private markets offerings by integrating AI-powered document processing into its data ecosystem. Canoe’s platform processes over 1.5 million documents every month, covering more than 44,000 private funds, a significant boost for institutional investors seeking access to the private asset space estimated to be worth $22 trillion.
Before the acquisition, Bloomberg and Canoe collaborated on sharing select data, building on Bloomberg’s current tracking of upwards of 3 million private companies, 50,000 private funds, and 16,000 private direct loans. This deal solidifies Bloomberg's position in alternative investment intelligence, targeting asset managers, wealth managers, and family offices who demand more granular insights into private markets.
Financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, but Canoe Intelligence’s backing by heavyweights like Blackstone, Carlyle Group, and Goldman Sachs shows the strategic value of its technology. The acquisition means Bloomberg can automate and streamline the extraction of complex, unstructured private market data at scale, which is key as alternative investments grow in popularity among institutional buyers.
