Starting January 2026, Bitget began imposing strict limits on its Canadian clientele. The platform stopped accepting new registrations from Canada, cut off Interac and bank wire deposits, and restricted existing users to closing existing positions only. This shift came after updated guidelines from the Canadian Securities Administrators made it challenging for Bitget to continue offering full services without registering as a FINTRAC Money Services Business, a demanding and costly process.
For Canadians holding open trades on Bitget, the countdown began: all positions must be closed within 90 days. While withdrawals to external wallets remain operational for now, Canadian users have been barred from participating in Bitget Earn pools, cutting off another avenue for engagement.
Considering BTCC as an Option
In light of Bitget's withdrawal, BTCC is gaining attention among Canadian futures traders, especially those prioritizing use options and platform security. Unlike Bitget, BTCC is not positioned as a direct competitor in copy trading or coin variety, but it does offer a stable environment for futures trading without the regulatory hurdles currently plaguing Bitget.
This development mirrors a broader trend of crypto platforms reassessing their presence in markets with evolving regulatory landscapes. Traders seeking alternatives might find BTCC a practical choice to continue trading smoothly within Canada.
