"The failure to maintain above $64,000 signals growing short-term bearish pressure," noted trader Crypto Patel as Bitcoin slipped sharply on Monday. The cryptocurrency dipped to around $63,200 after shedding nearly 3% over the past day, with eyes now on the key $63,000 level. Losing that floor could open the door to retesting support near $61,000, a zone last seen during earlier July weakness.
The retreat came after Bitcoin repeatedly stumbled around resistance between $65,600 and $65,700, confirming a short-lived attempt to push higher had faltered. Crypto Patel pointed to the breakdown below a rising trendline and a failed retest of $65,600 as signs of a short-term bearish setup. Meanwhile, fellow analyst That Martini Guy emphasized the battle near $63,000, describing it as a potential market shakeout point. Should the price break down from there, sellers will likely target the lower $61,000 mark before any meaningful rebound.
Despite the decline, trading volumes stayed elevated with a reported $27.5 billion exchanged in 24 hours, reflecting ongoing repositioning rather than capitulation or fresh buying interest. Exchange reserves remain near cycle lows, showing long-term holders haven’t significantly dumped their coins yet, but spot market demand is thin. This leaves BTC vulnerable to another round of leveraged selling if support cracks.
Adding to the subdued vibes, analyst Ali Martinez highlighted tightening Bollinger Bands over three days, indicating compressed volatility ahead. Such narrowing typically signals a calm before a big move but doesn’t reveal direction. Bitcoin’s path in the coming sessions will depend heavily on whether $63,000 holds or gives way to $61,000.
