On Binance, altcoins have seized more than 60% of all trading volume. Bitcoin has dropped to just 22%, with Ethereum claiming 18%. For every $10 traded on the world's largest crypto exchange, over $6 flows to tokens outside the top two.
CryptoQuant contributor Maartunn flagged the shift, noting this marks the steepest altcoin dominance since early 2025. No single token is driving the numbers. This is a broad rotation across the entire altcoin category, not a meme coin flash or wash trading on a smaller venue.
The data matters because Binance's scale amplifies the signal. When smaller exchanges spike altcoin volume, incentive programs or new listings usually explain it. At Binance, the move carries real weight. Crypto media, including Cointelegraph, has already picked up on the trend.
What stands out is the distribution itself. Concentrated volume in one or two tokens typically signals hype and pump mechanics. Spread volume across the category suggests real market participation. If Bitcoin's share keeps sliding below 20% while altcoins hold above 60%, that crosses into structural territory, not a temporary rotation.
